Everyone has their own kind of cross to bear when it comes to clutter, and I’m not going to sit here and say I do not struggle with certain aspects of the plan. For me, I like to make my personal filing when it piles up. If I do it as it comes through the door that I have nothing to feel bad about, but sometimes life gets out of hand and I have to let it pile up until I have time to take it.
So it is my personal burden to carry. What is yours? Think about it, what plan projects really make you feel bad, do you fear it, you want to run for the hills and never look back?
There are so many reasons for the disorder and why or how it happens. If you think about the one area that you hate to plan whether it is paper, kitchen, personal items in the closet or the bathroom works what about it bothers you so much? Is it that you do not know what to do with the items, it is so much you do not know where to start, it is boring, do you think it might take too much time, is there any sabotage your efforts, do you have with uncooperative Room Mate or partner? There’s a lot to think about is not there? But I can guarantee you if you can get that part figured out you’re halfway to your goal. Next find accountability partner, someone who will hold you accountable for progress. Skip to progress with relevant once a week and set new goals for the next week.
What I tell all my clients and their plan my forums is that you have to eat the elephant one bite at a time. To plan, it means that you do one area or one room at a time. You can start with the top of the table or the top of your counter. When you have these things done, congratulate yourself and do something good for yourself, like going for an ice cream cone or a dessert and coffee. Before you know it you’ll be well on your way to an organized home or office.
Next, do not talk to folks to organize travails if they criticize or constantly belittle you. You do not need to hear it from the people, it will only make you feel bad. Seek out those that may be beneficial to you about your progress and encourage you to keep it up.
You’re not the only one struggling to organize, there are thousands out there with the same problem as you, they just may look a little different. Get going, taking a small area to begin with and start to feel good about yourself. I know you can do, I believe you and the desire to get organized.
